The Certified Specialist Program recognizes members of the Law Society who have met established standards of experience and knowledge requirements in one or more designated areas of law and have maintained exemplary standards of professional practice.
Qualifications for Certification
To be Certified as a Specialist, a lawyer must have:
- practiced for a minimum of seven years prior to the date of the application.
- had substantial involvement in the specialty area during five of the seven years, i.e.,
- mastery of substantive law, practices and procedures, and
- concentration of practice in the specialty area;
- complied with the professional development requirements; and
- complied with the professional standards requirements.
The stringent qualifications as set out above, by the Law Society of Upper Canada, ensure that anyone Certified as a Specialist is not only highly experienced, but has attained and maintained a high level of legal education. Mark Arnold is Certified as a Specialist in Civil Litigation.
